How to handle sudden tooth pain at home
These steps can reduce discomfort temporarily. If you have swelling, fever, trauma, or severe pain, seek urgent dental care.
What you can do now
- Rinse gently with warm salt water.
- Use a cold pack on the cheek (10–15 minutes at a time).
- Take OTC pain medicine as directed (if safe for you).
What to avoid
- Do not place aspirin directly on gums (can burn tissue).
- Avoid very hot/cold foods if it triggers sharp pain.
- Don’t delay care if symptoms are escalating.
